Praia dos Naufragados beach is located towards the extreme south of the island. The beach offers vast sea and thick sand, perfect for sun bathing. Along with fishing, tourists also enjoy camping and trekking in Praia dos Naufragados.
Praia dos Naufragados came into limelight after an incident that happened at the beach. In 1753, a group of acorianos immigrants got inspired by the Portuguese and decided to head towards the Rio Grande Do Sul in two ships.
But unfortunately, an unexpected storm hit the coast of the Island of Santa Catarina which resulted in the wrecking of the ships.
The ship was damaged and the vessels were punctured. Seventy seven people survived the disaster, out of which some continued on their way towards the Rio Grande Do Sul and some of them stayed back on the island.
